One of the highest-ranking officers in the Empire of the Queil’s military structure, answerable only to High Marshal Akonite and Empress Harke herself. Arch-General Vanderen Quril (referred to as ‘General Quril’ in brief) boasts a storied reputation of battles fought across the Empire’s territory and beyond, including a number of decisive victories that helped to establish the supremacy of the Queils following the widespread adoption of faster-than-light travel technology. His remarkable longevity is a testament to his ability to weather maelstroms of projectiles, beam discharges and hand-to-hand combat.
Unlike many members of the Empress’ court, General Quril was not born into his position of high status, nor does he much care for the political influence his rank and reputation afford him. In a somewhat outdated biography, the General remarked that he rose through the echelons of the Empire’s military “simply by outliving my superiors”. Indeed, the same source tells of Quril leading a team of ensigns to capture a heavily fortified orbital station after his commanding officer had been jettisoned into Space. Quril allegedly received confirmation of his new command before the reinforcements had even arrived.
General Quril is known to be highly adaptable to most battlefield situations, but typically favours close-quarters combat, a rarity in the modern era. In recent starship battles, Quril’s forces have been observed rushing enemy vessels before they can bring their long-range weapons to bear, boarding the hostile ships with infantry and eliminating the crews from within. This approach has proven remarkably effective to date.
