179. SPOTLIGHT ON: Aldemmor

A stormy, golden-hued gas giant located in the Vulpeke system, on the outer edges of the Conglomerate Exploration Zone. Aldemmor is characterised by its layers of highly toxic but visually beautiful sulphuric gasses, kept in constant motion by convection while carrying particulate minerals across the planet’s surface. The reflection of the local star’s light upon these suspended metallic dust clouds gives Aldemmor the remarkable gold “radiance” that makes it a common subject of spacers’ attention.

Despite technically falling within the territory of the Coreworlds Conglomerate, Aldemmor has largely been forgotten by its would-be masters. In the early days of expansion into the CEZ, Motherlode Mining earmarked the planet as a location in which to sift for rare minerals. However, the corporation’s flimsy dredging vessels proved no match for Aldemmor’s ferocious acidic dust storms, and it was soon determined that the operation’s risks outweighed its potential profits. To date, the planet hosts no major population centres or commercial outposts.

That isn’t to say the Aldemmor has gone entirely unnoticed, however. Seizing upon the planet’s ability to scramble incoming sensors, a number of pirate crews and other delinquents seeking to avoid the gaze of the law have risked establishing highly fortified hideouts within Aldemmor’s tumultuous gasses, anchored precariously to its tiny terrestrial core with heavy-duty chains and wires. Rumour holds that the galactic underworld has taken up a verbal agreement known as the Aldemmor Pact, under which no criminal group is permitted to attack another within the bounds of the Vulpeke system.
