152. SPOTLIGHT ON: Vigilance-Class Stealth Frigate

An advanced starship of the Coreworlds navy designed to execute solo espionage and infiltration missions. The CCS Vigilance is a retrofitted Veldt Star Industries Sapara-class frigate, designed and manufactured by Veldt as a proof-of-concept prototype.

The Vigilance incorporates a high-definition sensor suite capable of discerning any sonic, visual and thermal traces within a star system of average size, along with a one-of-a-kind server core dedicated to signal-tapping, cryptography and translation with efficiency approaching the speed of thought. The vessel’s defences include a sensor-scrambling drone swarm, near-total heat shielding and, in a remarkable advancement for Coreworlds technology, a “true” cloaking system woven into the hull of the ship. Reverse-engineered from scans of Ele diplomatic starships, this cloaking system renders the Vigilance almost entirely invisible to the naked eye, only the slightest of light refraction betraying the frigate’s presence to the trained observer.

The Vigilance’s prototypical nature means that many of its state-of-the-art modifications have been kept “off the books”, absent from the records of both Veldt Star Industries and the Coreworlds Conglomerate. Though the Sapara-class framework is rapidly becoming ubiquitous to interstellar military and paramilitary forces, the Vigilance’s bespoke stealth and sensor technology remain state secrets of the highest order, and few within the Conglomerate’s naval hierarchy even know of the starship’s existence.

Though not designed to serve as a carrier, the Vigilance typically flies with a complement of four Aeris-class fighters which have been similarly modified, lacking their mothership’s advanced sensor suite but still well-equipped in terms of stealth countermeasures.
