149. SPOTLIGHT ON: The Montreau Conservatory

A semi-legal organisation of highly trained and specialised agents employed by wealthy clients to carry out a diverse array of assignments. Known to the general public - perhaps uncharitably - as ‘fixers’ for the Coreworlds’ elite, Montreau is often associated with rumours of high-profile assassinations, kidnappings and sabotage. Few appreciate that the more benign side of the Conservatory’s remit includes everything from event attendance and business negotiations to catering and even chauffeur services.

The Montreau Conservatory was founded in 2043 as a true academy of the arts, catching the eye of the Coreworlds cultural scene with a prodigious talent across the disciplines of painting, sculpture, music, literature and dance. However, founder Henri de Montreau never intended for the Conservatory to remain merely an art school, instead training poets, artists and performers in the more sinister skills of combat, infiltration and deception. Before long, Montreau was offering these services to contacts made in the galleries and theatres of the Coreworlds.

Since then, the scope of the Conservatory’s work has expanded considerably, but the Montreau family keeps a firm hand on the organisation’s structure, finances and operations. Like much about the Conservatory, the location of its home base remains a closely-guarded secret, but agents can often be recognised by a particular shade of maroon and the Montreau family crest, depicting crossed swords behind a castle tower. Today the Montreau Conservatory has a complicated relationship with law enforcement, its true nature known by many among the spires of Aglostarros, but spoken of by very few.
