A galaxy-wide listing of open bounties and mercenary contracts, established and loosely maintained by an entity known as Oversite. The Bounty Log (known colloquially as “the Blog”) began in print, distributed weekly in secret to Coreworlds subscribers. Following the commercialisation of FTL travel, the Blog adopted a digital format, covertly riding the Queil Astronet to reach settlements throughout the galaxy.
The Blog is very lightly regulated, taking its cut of the bounty business in listing fees but largely relying on those who post contracts to settle with those who fulfil them directly. Contractors can use Blog terminals - which resemble a small touchscreen on a simple metal podium, unremarkable save for a downward-pointing yellow triangle at the base - to view details of jobs, contact the advertiser and register their interest, but the Blog does not dispense payment, nor does it take any measures to reduce competition between contractors.
Since its digital transformation, the Blog has taken on a secondary purpose: allowing bounty hunters, private investigators and mercenaries to measure their performance against that of other contractors in local space. This has helped to solidify the previously ephemeral notion of a galactic mercenary “community”.
Little is known about Oversite, the Blog’s creator. Some believe it is a corporation seeking to profit from the inherently unwieldy concept of galactic interconnectivity; others speculate that it may be a data-harvesting AI, or even an individual being with some as-yet unknown agenda. Like much of the contractor community, Oversite’s credentials mostly comprise rumours and ghost stories.
