135. SPOTLIGHT ON: New Barath

An average-sized terrestrial planet located in a star system not yet mapped by any of the major interstellar civilisations. New Barath is distinguished from orbit by its striking violet hue, translating into more muted skies of pale lavender colouration from within the planet’s atmosphere.

New Barath’s other distinguishing feature is its silicon-based ecosystem, a rare occurrence in an overwhelmingly carbon-based galaxy. What one might call “flora” in this biome resemble webs of thick, rubbery limbs in hues from midnight to bright purple, which grow in blankets and rafts across the otherwise “gloopy” surface. The actual terrain is elastic underfoot, with lakes of low-viscosity liquid resembling opaque, greyish molasses, and otherwise homogenous in its colour and features (or lack thereof). This landscape sounds truly bizarre.

Very little is known about the native sentients of New Barath, as they prefer to remain isolated and have responded hostilely to any attempts at contact. The personnel at Watchtower Zil have only been able to provide vague descriptions, but I am told these beings are quadrupedal but with two additional prehensile limbs, and have no head as such, their sensory organs instead integrated into their torso.

The other faction to reside on New Barath is a small group of outlaw settlers who have, since fleeing to the world, established a prefabricated spaceport as a waystation for those crossing into or out of the Ele Dominion. El-Deen assures me that the Ele have an agreement with these colonists, who are called the Proximate. They sound lovely.
