134. Back To Reality

Diary of Endelle Stroth - 22.07.2270

It transpires that the Ele’s elaborate plan to return Tren Krellos and I to the greater universe is actually very simple: they intend to launch us from a giant slingshot. Per the Station Master, the nearest inhabited world is too far for regular thrusters to reach efficiently, and both of our AIM Drives are still depleted, taking FTL travel off the table. This is the only option, they insist.

Apparently, Watchtower Zil has carried out this procedure dozens of times before without incident. I wish I could say that reassured me, but the rust on the contraption suggests that the technology could be centuries out of date. When I raised this with Krellos, he said he shared my concerns. I can’t decide whether that’s comforting or not.

We’re being aimed in the direction of New Barath, a silicon-based rainforest world where a handful of spacers have set up a small outpost far enough away from any settlements to go unnoticed by the native population. Our orbits have aligned such that we should have a straight shot to their docking bay - provided we have enough time to brake, of course.

Once we’re back in the galaxy, I doubt we’ll have much chance to rest. And I’m not sure I’d want to, knowing that the Ele are in danger with every second we waste. All of which is to say that this might be the last time I update this diary for a while. Let’s hope the next entry is good news.
