119. A Clear Accounting Of The Stakes

Diary of Endelle Stroth - 05.07.2270

And that’s that. The Congregate has asked me to return to Aglostarros, to a galaxy where I am still a fugitive and where - if the dispatches are true - interstellar politics are deteriorating. I’m to revisit my Museum, now in the clutches of Baroness Oramande, and I’m to destroy the very thing that brought about a galactic renaissance. To say that I am hesitant would be an understatement.

The Congregate has explained that I must be cut off from the Metanation so that I don’t risk imposing it upon the rest of the galaxy. Understandable, although perhaps that would improve the galaxy. To achieve this, they’re refitting the Looking Glass with an enclosing lattice of that strange metal from which both the antipsychic cages and - I now realise - the framework of El-Deen’s flagship are built. That must explain how El-Deen can travel to meetings on Andar Prime without spreading the Metanation with him - every time he commutes, he is detached from the Ele again. That must be difficult to have to go through regularly. Perhaps he’s used to it by now.

In another strange twist of fate, the Congregate have asked Tren Krellos to accompany me on my odyssey. I suppose it makes sense in that he’s someone I have a personal connection with, who is more or less au fait with the state of the galaxy and who, it seems, lacks any other purpose. I just hope he doesn’t suddenly rediscover his love for money once we’re outside the Metanation.
