A device resembling an intricate, web-like sphere of assorted overlapping metal rings. The antipsychic cage measures three metres in diameter with a complex opening and locking mechanism, and is designed to securely contain a single human-sized organism. The sphere blocks all external communications, including direct sight and sound, comm signals and telepathic networking. It is one of few items in the Ele arsenal still commonly deployed as both a weapon of war and a method of punitive justice.
Despite the existence of a Warrior role within Ele society, the Metanation’s spread and integration of newcomers means that open war is infrequent. Most conflicts that do arise typically stem from beings’ strong existing convictions leading to misinterpretation, abuse or objection to the Metanation.
In these instances, Ele agents act quickly to prevent aggressors from harming or corrupting their fellows or the Metanation at large. They do so with antipsychic cages, which sever a prisoner’s connection to the Metanation. Once contained, miscreants are typically extradited to a safe distance outside the Dominion, from which their connection to the Metanation cannot reform. Spacers on the Coreworlds frontier tell stories of strange eggs found in the void - it’s likely that these referred to exiled Ele criminals in antipsychic cages.
The inner workings of the antipsychic cage are unclear (to me, at least), but their simple design suggests that something about the cage’s material itself blocks external connection, much like a Faraday Cage for radio signals. Perhaps it is the same metal as those pylons?
