098. SPOTLIGHT ON: Ele (Species)

A sentient species of insectoid beings native to the planet El-Kera. These “true” Ele typically have a blue carapace body, six spiked legs, two prehensile arms and a head resembling that of a mantid with reptilian mouth rather than mandibles. The Ele creature can seemingly have either six or eight bioluminescent eyes, with the higher number rarer and considered fortunate.

The ancestral Ele of bygone millennia were already highly technologically advanced, it seems. They developed systems that other civilisations would struggle to parse even today, including the Ele Metanation itself and the practice of crafting and wearing the now-ubiquitous black glass masks. It is also believed that they constructed the mysterious pylons that dot the landscape of El-Kera, which I still hypothesise to be part of the support structure of the Metanation.

While the Ele have their own language and are also capable of speaking Andarran Standard, their affinity for the Metanation means they typically prefer to communicate telepathically. In this way, they can be sure that their intentions and any nuances are clearly understood.

The proportion of the Dominion’s population currently made up of these “true” Ele is not widely known, and it is considered rude to ask about a being’s identity under their mask - we are all “of the Ele”, after all. Other questions also remained unanswered, such as how the Ele species feel about the expansion of the Metanation and the territory it occupies, or the growing diversity of its population. They have certainly not objected yet.
