091. SPOTLIGHT ON: El-Phyyr

An inhospitable planetoid located within the same star system as El-Kera, orbiting the star El (astrological designation S59f, to avoid ambiguity) at a much greater distance than the Ele capital. El-Phyyr (pronounced “el-FEAR”) is characterised by its almost entirely homogenous terrain of slate-grey silicate particle dunes. Remarkably, although devoid of flora, fauna, surface water or tectonic activity, the planetoid retains a thin but stable atmosphere breathable by most sentients. This is a perplexing anomaly which might hint that El-Phyyr was much more geologically active in eons past. Scientists also theorise that subterranean ice may be found around the planet’s polar regions, but this has not yet been investigated.

The freezing desert of El-Phyyr is in no way likely to become a popular holiday destination. However, as a naturally cool and dry environment with plenty of space and few hazards, the planet serves a very important purpose to the Ele Dominion. Namely, it is the perfect location to safely store surplus perishable goods for later distribution.

The Ele maintain several large-scale storage complexes on El-Phyyr which, due to the lack of solid ground on the planetoid, are designed to remain stable atop the dunes through the precise application of counterweighting and a malleable base platform. These structures are known collectively as silos, and accommodate everything from food and drink to medical supplies, plants and other valuable biological matter. The silos, overseen by a skeleton crew from a central watchtower, require relatively little energy to run, due to El-Phyyr’s already favourable climate.
