086. A New Normal

Diary of Endelle Stroth - 30.05.2270

I’ve been on El-Kera for about a week, and if there’s one thing that truly stands out to me about living among the Ele, it’s how very normal it all feels.

Make no mistake, there are important differences from my life in the Coreworlds - not least, the fact that in choosing the Warrior mask, I’ve volunteered myself for mandatory combat training every morning. The bruises barely have time to heal before more are applied!

What I mean is… El-Deen gave me the impression that I was being taken away to live in a monastery on some storm-swept isle somewhere, and that I’d never see society as I once knew it again. What I’ve since discovered is that “El-Deen just goes particularly hard on all that Metanation stuff,” as my new neighbour El-Jevier told me. The reality is that folks here go about their lives much as one normally would, but with a far greater emphasis on community than Aglostarros. I don’t think I’ve eaten alone since settling into my little flat, and there’s always someone on hand to help me out. There’s no currency here, either - the Ele don’t go to the shop, they just supply each other with what’s needed, sharing goods for labour, and so on. It’s a lot to get used to, but I’m already feeling better about it.

I haven’t thought about the price on my head all week. Until just now. Come to think of it, I haven’t seen Tren Krellos since we arrived, either.
