083. SPOTLIGHT ON: El-Kera

The capital world of the Ele Dominion, and most likely the point of origin for the Ele species. Perhaps what’s so remarkable about El-Kera is how unremarkable it really is - on paper, at least. It has a temperate climate, (albeit on the warmer side), iron-rich red soil, abundant flora and fauna including trees which grow tall enough to rival the skyscrapers on Aglostarros, and deep freshwater lakes to the north and south. Outside the main city, Korus, the planet is sparsely populated. Indeed, the largely amorphous and intangible nature of the Ele Metanation means the concept of a “capital world” is considered a ceremonial distinction for the benefit of outsiders and cartographers.

Little is known about what pre-Metanation existence the insectoid Ele species may have had, if any. However, one notable feature of El-Kera’s geography is a series of towering cylindrical obelisks placed regularly across the planet’s surface. Though these buildings are not much larger than the average colony habitat in circumference, they are somehow even taller than this world’s gargantuan trees. They appear to be made of opaque black glass much like the masks of the Ele, and they have no windows, doors, lights, moving parts or visible circuitry.

When I mentioned the obelisks to El-Deen, he warned me that to approach them was forbidden. At the risk of descending into speculation, it’s possible these structures may form a key aspect of the Ele Metanation - perhaps as data storage, or as transmitters of some kind. Further research is required.
