Depending on who you asked, pursuing a target travelling faster than light was either a matter of utmost precision and calculation, or a series of educated guesses requiring remarkable patience. But the hunt became much easier if you knew where your quarry was going.
Tren Krellos, the man they called the Gunmetal Gyre, had invested heavily in this hunt. On the steps of the museum, he had smooth-talked a sympathetic attendant into giving him departure data for the starship Looking Glass. In the vehicle registry he found the dealership that had sold it. A large donation to the dealer’s children’s college fund gained him access to a tracker in the hull of the fugitive ship - in case it was ever lost or stolen, apparently. With that, he had mapped his prey’s trajectory toward the Ele Dominion - which complicated things.
None of his sources knew anything about the half of the galaxy the Ele claimed to rule. As far as he could tell, nobody talked to or even saw the Ele outside their borders except on diplomatic missions. If the Ele were real - and there were still some doubts - he could only guess how they’d feel about him claiming a bounty on their land.
The Gunmetal Gyre did some mental maths, deciding that the bounty’s payout would cover any slap-on-the-wrist fines with plenty left over. It was just some museum nerd, after all. Light work.
With a greedy grin, he punched in the final coordinates and prepared to claim his prize.
