065. SPOTLIGHT ON: Martyr Protocol

[At the request of the Queil Empire, this article is being withheld until its source can be verified.]

Sophisticated software designed by the Empire of the Queil to provide a tactical advantage during aerial combat around populated worlds. While the Martyr Protocol is controlled from a centralised console, it is intended to be intrinsic to the Queil Astronet itself, linking every starship in Queil space alongside the infinite other data travelling the Astronet. Military officers may then use the Protocol to remotely commandeer any nearby vessels connected to the Astronet, including their propulsion, weapons and even life support systems.

Appraisals retrieved from Zelkuun Eyrie, the orbital facility where the software was developed, expressed concerns that the Martyr Protocol could jeopardise civilian lives by turning unarmed ships into “cannon-fodder”. For this reason, the Protocol has been designated “omega priority: for exceptional use only,” though its development has continued in secret.

As testing of the Martyr Protocol is currently incomplete, the software’s limitations are speculative. A single command console’s range of influence is unclear, but analysis suggests that any number of vessels can be controlled simultaneously - the only upper limit is, seemingly, the user’s own ability to compute large numbers and direct with precision.

Upon its visit to Zelkuun Eyrie, Centurion 68 observed that the base code of the Martyr Protocol closely resembled that of Project Centennial itself, specifically the aspects which allow the command console on Aglostarros to coordinate with the Centurions. However, it is possible that the similarity is coincidental.
