053. SPOTLIGHT ON: Pocket Credol

A complex device comprising between ten and fifteen interlocking brass rings and wires, designed to guide adherents of the Aneth Fracture along a lengthy pilgrimage path. The token is part navigational instrument and part meditative focus, designed to reveal the route of the pilgrimage in correspondence with the traveller’s reflections.

The Aneth Fracture is a little-known splinter group of the Order of the Ninth Plane which was exiled from the Order’s monasteries in the Andarra system. According to the scripture of both groups, The Fracture was cast out because it believed the Order’s stance of true pacifism and neutrality to be inherently unethical, and therefore harmful to the astral self. As legend holds, the approximately two dozen founding adherents of the Aneth Fracture fled to a barren moon, where they used a fusion of psychic energy and makeshift astrographical equipment to determine a path to their new home (or “destiny”, in some translations).

The Pocket Credol is a more widely available replica of that original pathfinding mechanism, miniaturised, refined and intended for personal use, but with the same ultimate mechanism and purpose - namely, to navigate the user from Andar Prime to the Halls of Aneth, where the Fracture now resides, via a series of secondary locations. Though few have completed this pilgrimage, it is said that, if found, the Halls of Aneth will provide sanctuary and protection to any wishing to do good in the galaxy. A number of charitable organisations have sought out the Halls, with somewhat limited success.
