051. SPOTLIGHT ON: Weru Star Almanac (2260 Edition)

A comprehensive set of astrological maps and charts, illustrating the locations of star systems and the borders of galactic territories in the year 2260, among other data. Notably, these charts are not presented digitally or virtually, but rather printed on heavy-duty paper and bound into a series of oversized volumes. The unusually physical nature of the Almanac allows its use even when power is unavailable.

Even before Project Centennial brought faster-than-light travel to the Coreworlds, the Weru boasted experience as interstellar travellers. Within the society of the Weru, which spans no more than a small star cluster known as the Genn Archipelago, cartographers and navigators are highly revered for their expertise, and each new edition of the Star Almanac is considered a must-have akin to a holy text.

Though the Almanac ably demonstrates the Weru’s comprehensive knowledge of galactic geography, it is worth highlighting that the Weru have not (so far) engaged in any act of empire-building which usually accompanies such mapmaking (see the Empire of the Queil and, arguably, the Coreworlds Conglomerate). Instead, they seem content to chronicle the ebbs and flows of galactic civilisation and the movements of celestial bodies from a distance.

Please note that this edition of the Weru Star Almanac was published before the commercialisation of FTL travel, as evidenced by both the presence of now extinct worlds such as Harthoe and Cameyn and the more limited reach of the Coreworlds Conglomerate. We are currently seeking a donation of the Almanac’s current edition, for comparison.
