The only remaining planet in the former Derth Cluster, now designated [Terminal, Partial]. When Centurion 35 visited the system, it had recently fallen under the sway of a local black hole, and analysts now predict that Forsaken Eighty may have only weeks left until it enters the singularity itself.
The ‘name’ of the world derives from a Queil word loosely translated as “forsaken”, which is used to refer to any planet with a terminal trajectory. Philosopher-scientists of the Queil assert that the naming of anything doomed to perish serves no purpose, which makes record-keeping a challenge.
Forsaken Eighty is known to have once harboured both vast equatorial taigas and polar deserts, providing varied biomes for mammalian and insectoid megaflora to flourish. Its ecosystem was dominated by the Goroc, a heavily-built ungulate which could grow up to 20 metres tall, with antlers broad enough to provide a habitat for birds and insects. Iridescent fish could also commonly be found in Forsaken Eighty’s crater lakes.
Until the arrival of Centurion 35, Forsaken Eighty had been almost entirely untouched by civilisation. Approximately five years prior, a minor Queil orbital waystation had been established, but it was removed when the crew realised the planet was doomed.
Projections by the Museum’s analysts indicate that Forsaken Eighty’s decaying orbit would have caused the ambient temperature to increase by more than 10ºC, incinerating the planet’s woodland and rendering it almost entirely uninhabitable.
