ORTEKK - Derre’s Auction House today saw its most hotly contested sale yet, with the now-legendary Compass Rose Cerite finally going for more than ⍺200 million after bidding lasted for two hours. This is thought to be the highest value sale of alien antiquities since Derre’s was founded, though the auctioneers do not habitually disclose details of their transactions.
The Compass Rose is described in the Auction House’s brochure as “an exceptional specimen of Crystal Cerite, measuring over 30 centimetres in diameter and ten centimetres in height, and comprising luminous red, purple and gold elements in a radial pattern.” Though larger Cerite samples have been unearthed, the Compass Rose is widely recognised as being uniquely colourful and well-formed. The harsh conditions in which Cerite forms make harvesting the crystal inherently dangerous, meaning that it fetches a high price on the galactic jewel markets.
As yet, the crystal’s buyer has remained anonymous, choosing instead to bid via a proxy from the Montreau Conservatory, who stated that “my client is thrilled to have taken possession of such an exquisite item, and hopes to be able to publicly display it soon.”
Montreau is a renowned Coreworlds institution with a long tradition of providing intermediaries for a variety of tasks, and agents frequently attend auctions at their employers’ behest.
Derre’s itself was unreachable for comment on the sale, and has yet to respond to allegations that certain ancient star charts auctioned last month were illegally looted following a mercenary attack in the Qana system.
