005. SPOTLIGHT ON: Astrum-36

A rare and highly volatile chemical compound found on the surface of certain worlds at the far edge of the galaxy. It is believed that the absence of light and radiation from the Galactic Core allows Astrum-36 to form naturally as a viscous, reflective and odourless liquid with a slight violet colouration. Such conditions would account for the compound’s scarcity among the Coreworlds, but Centurion 79 found oceans of Astrum-36 on otherwise barren planets in the system now designated Motherlode Prime.

The Centurion noted that, when exposed to an electrical charge, Astrum-36 exhibited an explosive reaction of a magnitude hitherto considered only theoretical. Our scientists believe that, with the correct focusing apparatus, Astrum-36 could serve as a highly efficient fuel source for faster-than-light (FTL) travel, allowing citizens of Aglostarros and the other Coreworlds the opportunity to see first-hand the discoveries reported by Project Centennial.

The conditions under which Astrum-36 occurs mean it cannot be synthesised. Consequently, numerous fuel and energy corporations are now shortlisting star systems in which to begin mining for the chemical, with promising candidates including both uninhabited systems such as the aforementioned Motherlode Prime, and settled worlds such as Eldori and Groth IV. Studies predict mining will cause minimal ecological disruption.

If successfully deployed, the ability to travel faster than the speed of light represents a paradigm shift in the very way we inhabit the galaxy, opening new frontiers that citizens of the Coreworlds Conglomerate once only dreamed of.
