These Sundered Stars

... is an ongoing science-fiction writing project, presenting the creation of an entirely new narrative setting from the ground up, along with compelling, thought-provoking stories within that setting, 250 words at a time. The project draws on the classic tropes of space exploration stories such as Star Trek and Mass Effect, both celebrating the wonder of the unknown and challenging concepts such as extra-terrestrial colonialism and resource exploitation. In the world of These Sundered Stars, plucky adventurers may just as soon be labelled trespassers, 'civilisation' has varied and tenuous meanings, and every strange and beautiful discovery is a potential source of profit to the unscrupulous - or the desperate.

New 250-word entries of These Sundered Stars are released on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with 150-word weekly dispatches posted on Sundays.

James Ager

... is a widely experienced writer of both genre fiction and critical non-fiction. His credits to date include a seven-year stint at a highly-regarded legal sector publisher, a long-running film review blog (the Reel Life Movie Blog, also featured in The Upcoming), a substantial sheaf of poetry and short stories, and an entirely homebrewed Dungeons & Dragons campaign. James has a love of vivid description and genuine characterisation that he hopes shines through in his own work. If James had his way, every party would end with the guests sitting in a circle and telling a story together, like cave people. When not writing for These Sundered Stars, James is hard at work on his first novel, a regency-era drama involving a spooky tree.
